MOSCOW, 21 Feb — The Ukrainian military command can no longer control the Ukrainian Armed Forces after the surrender of Avdiivka, retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis said in a post on the social network X interview channel News Nation.
“It turns out that the Ukrainian military command lost control over their troops. They had forces on the outskirts of the city <…> that could still defend themselves, which is what they were told to do. Instead, they left there, followed by the rest,” – he noted.
Davis emphasized that it was for this reason that the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky, had to announce the withdrawal of Ukrainian units from the city. In his opinion, the situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces will only get worse, since the soldiers no longer trust the leadership.
“The next phase will be even more difficult,” the military man concluded.
On the evening of February 17, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to Vladimir Putin about the complete taking of Avdeevka under control. The President congratulated the Russian military on this success and important victory.
Avdeevka is a northern suburb of Donetsk, for which fighting has been going on since the beginning of the special operation. The Ukrainian Armed Forces regularly shelled the capital of the DPR and other settlements of Donbass from there. The liberation of the city made it possible to move the front line away from Donetsk and significantly secure it from enemy attacks.
