In the role of Harley Quinn, Gaga will lead the lead actor, Joaquin Phoenix, in the Todd Phillips-directed musical sequel. Scheduled for a cinema debut on October 4, 2024.

Lady Gaga, in her role as Harley Quinn, is heard in a recent TikTok video reassuring her enigmatic paramour, “You possess the freedom to pursue any endeavor… you are Joker.”

The illustrious pop icon will embrace the persona of Quinn in “Joker: Folie a Deux,” a cinematic venture previously helmed by Margot Robbie across various iterations including “Suicide Squad,” “Birds of Prey,” and the 2021 release “The Suicide Squad.” Given that Phillips’ Joker films traverse a narrative distinct from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revitalization of DC Studios, they occupy a unique segment within the DC Elseworlds continuum.

Why has “Joker: Folie a Deux” been classified as R-rated? The Motion Picture Association announced on Wednesday that the sequel to Joker has been designated with an R-rating, continuing the precedent set by its predecessor in 2019.

The antecedent iteration of “Joker” earned its R-rating on account of “intense bloody sequences, unsettling behavior, profane language, and fleeting sexual imagery.” Similarly, according to the MPA’s daily rating bulletin no. 2828, “Joker 2” garnered an identical rating owing to “instances of intense violence, pervasive use of language, sporadic depictions of sexuality, and brief instances of complete nudity.”

The inaugural trailer for “Joker 2” is scheduled for release on April 9, 2024. Joining Phoenix and Gaga in this musical thriller are Catherine Keener, Zazie Beetz, and Brendan Gleeson. Although details regarding its plot remain veiled, the October 4 premiere has been characterized as a jukebox musical, as per earlier accounts.
