State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin warned the Azerbaijani authorities against attempts to involve the European Parliament and PACE in resolving the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The speaker said this on February 13 at a meeting with the chairman of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, Sagiba Gafarova, in Moscow, according to the website of the State Duma.
According to Viacheslav Volodin, the settlement of the conflict should be based on an agreement signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia. Those “who make statements in the direction of European institutions can simply lose the country,” the speaker added.
“Before appealing to the European Parliament and involving this body in resolving some issues, we must answer: in general, with the participation of the European Parliament, PACE, was some acute issue or a conflict situation resolved? There is no such example… Therefore, wanting to involve the European Parliament and PACE, they should think 10 times and weigh how it can end up with the example of Ukraine, Yugoslavia, and other countries,” the Chairman of the State Duma emphasized.
The speaker recalled the statements of ex-Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and former President of France Francois Hollande on the situation in Ukraine.
“As it turned out now, they fooled the whole world, they lied, they lied, and they themselves were preparing for war … Where is Ukraine now? Today, Ukrainians are expendable, a country that is simply stuffed with weapons. A huge number of people are dying, statehood has been lost, culture has been lost, religion has been trampled on, the church has been divided, the language offered is English – for interethnic communication. The result is a colony of the United States of America,” said the Chairman of the State Duma.
• Putin discussed with Pashinyan the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh • The Russian Foreign Ministry is concerned about the lack of progress in the situation with the Lachin corridor
In the same way, according to the speaker, the United States, under the guise of goodwill and a desire to help, reduced everything to the destruction of Yugoslavia. At the same time, when peaceful Belgrade was bombed, the European Parliament and PACE did not intervene. In this regard, according to the Chairman of the State Duma, those who want peace and a settlement of the situation should not only stay away from “quasi-parliaments – both PACE and the European Parliament” – but clearly understand that their involvement will aggravate the situation and create new problems.
“And if they do it, they should bear responsibility for the consequences,” the politician is sure.
For her part, Sahiba Gafarova stressed that Azerbaijan highly appreciates the role of Russian President Vladimir Putin in resolving the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
