After a powerful earthquake, the inhabitants of Syria in the first place need water and food. Ammar Ammar, a spokesman for UNICEF’s regional office for the Middle East and North Africa, warned that there is a risk of an epidemic in the affected areas of the country.
In conversation with TV channel Al Jazeera, he noted that the Syrian people need all kinds of assistance, but “the primary need at the present time is for drinking water and food.”
“We fear an outbreak that could affect millions of people if we don’t take action now,” he said. Ammar emphasized.
According to him, the assistance provided to Syria “should correspond to its needs.” And the representative of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, earlier called the situation in the SAR catastrophic, noting that in order to provide assistance to the victims, it is necessary to show solidarity with the Syrian people at the international level.
