The possibility of special processing of agricultural and food products using ionizing radiation is proposed to be enshrined in law. Such a document, which has already passed the first reading in the State Duma, the parliamentarians want to adopt during the current spring session.
The use of such technology is a safe and effective way to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological, phytosanitary, quarantine, and veterinary safety of products, the authors of the bill are sure. They confirm their position with the research of domestic and foreign experts.
The co-author of the document, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Affairs Vladimir Kashin (KPRF), in a commentary to Parliamentary Newspaper, explained that this technology, among other things, lengthens the shelf life of meat – chicken, turkey, pork, and so on. In other countries, such work is already underway, the deputy added.
