Russian special operation in Ukraine
Washington has no objection to the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) striking targets on Ukrainian territory, of which the White House considers Crimea a part. This was stated by US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Celeste Wallander, answering the question of whether the United States supports the “return of Crimea by Ukraine.”
“The United States supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine over its internationally recognized borders, including Crimea. Ukraine has the right to defend every inch of its territory. <...> The United States has no objections, we do not seek to limit Ukrainian military operations, [направленные на] achieving their goals,” Wallander said during a speech at the Washington Center for a New American Security. Earlier newspapers The Times wrote that Kyiv is ready to use long-range missiles to strike targets in the Crimea. Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev warned that if Ukraine strikes at Russian territories, in particular at the peninsula, then “retaliation strikes” await it. The State Duma, in turn, stated that the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Crimea with American-made missiles can be regarded as a declaration of war by the United States.
