The State Duma is discussing the option of introducing impersonal packs of cigarettes
Moscow, February 13, 2023, 05:56 — REGNUM Some measures to regulate the sale of tobacco in Russia, including the introduction of impersonal packs of cigarettes, are being discussed in the State Duma, RIA Novosti reports citing a source in the lower house of the Russian parliament.
MP Sultan Khamzaev (“United Russia”) said that the issue of introducing impersonal packs has been raised in the State Duma for more than a month. The parliamentarian explained that it is proposed to introduce green packs following the example shown “certain countries of the world”.
Such packaging must not contain logos, colors or trademarks of the manufacturer. Only the pattern color can be applied on it, and the brand name is required to be applied “in mandatory size and font”.
The introduction of such measures is designed to reduce the attractiveness of tobacco products and encourage negative attitudes towards smoking.
As reported IA REGNUMOn January 18, Sultan Khamzaev (United Russia) demanded that representatives of four large transnational cigarette companies — Philip Morris, British American Tobacco, Imperial Tobacco and Japan Tabacco — be invited to the State Duma. He stressed that these organizations should answer a number of questions from legislators.
