Relations between Serbia and Russia throughout history have been saturated with the spirit of friendship and mutual understanding. This was stated by Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic in a congratulatory telegram addressed to his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on the occasion of the 185th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Serbian diplomatic relations.
On Monday, the head of Serbian diplomacy received Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, to whom he conveyed congratulations for the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry. In turn, Dacic was also presented with a telegram on the occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, as well as in connection with the upcoming public holiday – Statehood Day of Serbia.
Dacic emphasized the significance of the anniversary, noting that “Serbian-Russian relations, despite the formal framework, throughout history have been imbued with the spirit of friendship and mutual understanding and are based on a common origin, spirituality, faith and culture,” the press service of the Serbian Foreign Ministry quoted him as saying. .

The letter emphasizes the mutual support, alliance and great sacrifices made by both peoples during the Serbian struggle for liberation in the 19th century, as well as the two world wars, which are commemorated by numerous monuments.
Dacic also expressed deep gratitude for Moscow’s consistent position on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija and firm support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.
