The Pentagon has stepped up surveillance of US airspace

The US military has become more closely monitoring activity in its airspace following the downing of a Chinese balloon, Pentagon Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemisphere Melissa Dalton said Sunday.

“Since the incident with the PRC balloon, we have been monitoring airspace activity at a given altitude more closely, which explains the fact that we were able to detect more objects in the sky,” Dalton said during a special briefing for journalists.

On Sunday, the US military shot down the fourth aerial object in eight days, including a Chinese spy balloon that crossed the US and intercepted over the Atlantic.
