The death toll from the catastrophic earthquake in Turkey has risen to 29,605. This was reported by the Department for the Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic.
Turkey was hit by a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake on Monday. Later that day, tremors of the same intensity were repeated.
As Parlamentskaya Gazeta wrote, on Friday, rescuers from the Russian Emergencies Ministry discovered the bodies of four Russians who died under the rubble of a house during an earthquake in the province of Hatay. Representatives of the department reported the death of a husband, wife and two children.
“As of 15:55, 29,605 people have died,” the statement posted on the portal of the Turkish department says.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth RAS, Head of the Laboratory of Strong Earthquakes and Seismometry Ruben Tatevosyan told Parliamentary Gazeta that during the earthquake in Turkey, the Arabian Plate, as the Russian media wrote, did not move anywhere – there was only a shift along the fault.
