The number of victims of a powerful earthquake in Turkey has exceeded 20,000 people, Anadolu agency reports, citing the country’s Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.
“The death toll has reached 20,213 people, 80,052 were injured,” – the agency quotes him as saying.
It is noted that almost 87 thousand people were evacuated from the disaster zone to other regions of Turkey. CNN reports 3,513 dead and 5,245 injured in Syria. Thus, the total number of victims of the earthquake exceeded 23.7 thousand people.
On Monday night, a powerful earthquake and the subsequent echo shocks caused deaths and significant damage in several provinces of Turkey, as well as in neighboring Syria.
