The New York Metropolitan Museum classified Ilya Repin and Ivan Aivazovsky as Ukrainian artists.
The cultural institution posted on the page with the painting “Ship in the Moonlight” by Aivazovsky information that the author of the work is Ukrainian. The same statement can be seen on the page with the painting “Portrait of Vsevolod Mikhailovich Garshin” by Repin, writes RIA News.
Aivazovsky and Repin were born during the Russian Empire in Feodosia and Chuguev. Earlier, the Metropolitan Museum named Arkhip Kuindzhi a Ukrainian artist. The head of the Union of Artists of Russia Andrei Kovalchuk was indignant that in this case we are talking about a political provocation.
