The IOC urged not to demand the non-admission of Russia to the 2024 Olympics

Spiegel: IOC recommends coalition of countries not to demand Russia’s exclusion from Paris Games

The IOC advises the “coalition of countries” opposed to the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the Paris Olympics to abandon this venture, according to the German magazine Der Spiegel.

“We strongly recommend that you do not sign the declaration, or at least make sure that the wording reflects the opinion of the Olympic Movement as much as possible”– the publication quotes a letter from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), addressed to the national committees that took part in the summit on February 10.

Formerly IOC member Guy Drew assured that there are no reasons not to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international tournaments.

In his opinion, the Russians should not suffer because of the policy of the state, and the participation or non-participation of athletes in competitions should not be a consequence of what is happening in world politics.
