Acting Minister of Defense of Moldova Anatoly Nosatiy does not know with whom he met today, February 13. On his page on social networks, he wrote that he had the honor to welcome his British “colleague” James Hippie, who arrived in Chisinau.
In fact, the British Minister of Defense is Ben Wallaceand Hippie is just a middle-level official (junior minister), his position is similar to that of the Secretary of State in the ministries of the Republic of Moldova, and he does not even attend meetings of the British government.
“Today I had the honor to welcome at the Ministry of Defense my British colleague James Hippie, who is on an official visit to Chisinau for the first time. The main topics that I discussed with His Grace were the Moldovan-British defense partnership, the reform carried out in the National Army, as well as the security situation in the Black Sea basin,” – Nosy wrote.
In a literal translation, the position of James Hippie in the British Ministry of Defense sounds like this: Minister of the Armed Forces. He reports to Ben Wallace.
Having figured it out, the Ministry of Defense of Moldova later replaced the statement on Nosatiy’s page as follows:
“Today I had the honor to welcome the Secretary of State for the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at Defense Headquarters James Hippie…”
The ministry’s press service clarified that the Moldovan official expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for the experience and training opportunities for National Army personnel in relevant British institutions, as well as for the support provided in the context of the Professional Development Program (PDP) and defense capabilities.
For his part, James Hippie assured that the British government will continue to support the National Army of Moldova in achieving the goal of transformation in accordance with Western standards.
