President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach expressed dissatisfaction with the interference of politicians in the issue of admitting Russians to the 2024 Olympics.
Thomas Bach believes that politicians have no right to interfere in international sports issues. The head of the IOC voiced the corresponding opinion in a conversation with AFP journalists, commenting on the calls of Western countries not to allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Paris Olympics.
“National governments should not decide who can participate in international sports competitions. Such an approach would be the end for all international tournaments, such as the World Championships and the Olympic Games,” Bach emphasized.
Earlier, the IOC did not rule out that Russian and Belarusian athletes will perform at the Olympic Games-2024 in a neutral status. The final decision on their admission to participate in the Olympics will be made this year.
