Turkey’s earthquake death toll has risen to 17,674 with 72,879 affected. This update was announced on local TV channels on Thursday by Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay.
“Unfortunately, we are forced to report an increase in the death toll. Now there are 17,674 of them. 72,879 people were affected. Over the past 24 hours, 121 people have been rescued alive from the rubble,” – he said.
Oktay noted that search and rescue operations in the provinces of Kilis and Sanliurfa have already been completed.
“In the provinces of Diyarbakır, Adana and Osmaniye, rescue activities are basically completed. In the rest of the provinces affected by the earthquakes, efforts continue to rescue people from under the collapsed buildings. In total, more than 120 thousand people are involved in this work. Directly in the places of destruction, 29.6 thousand specialists are dismantling the rubble, ” the vice president said.
