Switzerland refused to Spain to re-export air defense systems to Ukraine

The Swiss government has rejected a request from Spain to send Swiss air defenses to Ukraine. About this channel CNN reported in the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

Spain requested permission to export air defenses in January. Switzerland considers the re-export of weapons to Ukraine a violation of its legislation.

“It is for the same reason that we rejected a similar request from Denmark and Germany last year,” SECO spokesman Fabian Mayenfisch told CNN.

In 1815, Switzerland received the status of permanent neutrality. Under the law, a country does not have the right to directly or indirectly send weapons to countries participating in hostilities. In this regard, in November 2022, Switzerland imposed a partial arms embargo on Ukraine.

In April 2022, Germany twice requested permission to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with ammunition for the German Marder infantry fighting vehicle. In July of the same year, Denmark asked to send about 20 Piranha III infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. The Swiss authorities refused, citing the status of neutrality.
