Switzerland blocks $8.1 billion worth of Russian assets

Swiss authorities announced the blocking of $ 8.1 billion of Russian assets

The Swiss government “under sanctions” blocked Russian assets worth $8.1 billion, RIA Novosti reported on February 13, citing Antje Bertschi, spokesman for the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

Earlier, Swiss media reported that Credit Suisse blocked or froze Russian assets totaling more than $19 billion, which is about a third of all Russian funds in Switzerland.

It is possible that the bank blocked those Russian assets that were sanctioned by other states, were admitted to the State Secretariat.

Earlier, the Swiss authorities announced that they had joined almost all Western sanctions against Russia, and the country’s foreign policy report for 2022 said that Bern was considering the possibility of “strengthening cooperation with NATO in the field of security.”
