In the Tyumen region, 615 outlets selling illegal tobacco products were identified. A corresponding study of labeling data was conducted by the Public Consumer Initiative (PCI).

In total, violations were detected in 17 regions of Russia, where 16.5 thousand entrepreneurs sell illegal tobacco products. The leader is the Moscow region, where 2,625 retail outlets with illegal sales were identified. The management of the OPI appealed to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a request to conduct an audit based on the results of their research. The organization believes that illegal tobacco products can be counterfeit and pose a danger to the lives of citizens.
Previously, the government approved the bill Ministry of Finance, which will close the loophole for smuggling tobacco and alcohol into Russia. For illegal large-scale movement across the customs border of the EAEU or the Russian Federation, violators will be punished with imprisonment for a term of three to five years with a fine of up to 1 million rubles. The law should come into force on April 1, 2024.
