WPL Auction: Indian women’s cricket team opener Smriti Mandhana became the costliest cricketer in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. He was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday for Rs 3.4 crore. India’s star opening batsman was the first player to go under the auction. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.8 crore. Mumbai left no stone unturned in bidding for the Indian skipper. The inaugural match of the WPL will be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 26 at two venues in Mumbai with the player auction being held on February 13. Deepti Sharma was bought by UP Warriors for Rs 2.6 crore, while Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner was the highest paid overseas player as she moved to Gujarat Giants for Rs 3.2 crore.
