Macron did not rule out depriving Putin of the Order of the Legion of Honor

French leader Emmanuel Macron called the issue of depriving Russian President Vladimir Putin of the title of Chevalier Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor “symbolic, but important.” It is reported by TASS with reference to AFP.

It should be noted that the order was established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte, the decree on conferring the highest degree of the highest French order on the Russian president in 2006 was signed by French President Jacques Chirac.

Speaking to reporters after the EU summit in Brussels, Macron noted that he had not yet made such a decision, but stressed that “there are no prohibitions” for him. “Such decisions are always filled with meaning, and I think it is necessary to find the right moment to take them,” the French leader stressed.

Earlier, Macron awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The politician was awarded on Thursday during his visit to Paris, RIA Novosti reported earlier. At the same time, the head of the French state wrote on his Twitter blog that the award of the order to Zelensky is a tribute to Ukraine and its people.
