The Kremlin is surprised that an article by American journalist Seymour Hersh about undermining Nord Stream was not widely disseminated in the West, given the depth of analysis in it. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
As Parlamentskaya Gazeta wrote, on the eve of Hersh said in a publication on his own website that American divers, under the cover of NATO exercises held in the summer of 2022, planted explosive devices under the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, which were subsequently activated by representatives Norwegian Navy.
U.S. President Joe Biden decided to sabotage the facilities after lengthy, secret discussions with the national security team that lasted more than nine months, according to a person familiar with the matter, cited by Hersh.
“Of course, when analyzing any speeches in the United States and in Washington, it is still very important for media representatives – not only Russian, but also foreign – to pay attention to a very serious, well, maybe somewhat controversial, but Mr. Hersh’s publication about alleged involvement of the direct line of the White House for organizing an act of sabotage and terrorist attacks against critical energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, ”RIA Novosti quotes Peskov.
The Kremlin representative noted that the investigation conducted by the journalist once again demonstrates the need for an open international investigation and punishment of those responsible for the incident at Nord Stream. He added that the Russian side had previously stated that Moscow had all the data indicating “the involvement of the Anglo-Saxons” in organizing the attacks.
“The article <…> is notable for its depth of analysis, harmony of presentation, and so on. Let’s just say that it would be unfair to ignore her at least. Especially for a country like Germany, which, in fact, as a result of this terrorist act, was deprived of a very important energy facility, ”Peskov emphasized.
As Parlamentskaya Gazeta wrote, on the night of September 26, 2022, the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were blown up near the Danish island of Bornholm. Of the four threads of two objects, only one remained in working order. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident an act of international terrorism, the purpose of which was to undermine the energy security of the continent.
