Financial Times: Dozens of Chinese military balloons found over Taiwan in recent years
Taipei, 13 February 2023, 03:57 — REGNUM Several dozen Chinese military balloons have been spotted in Taiwanese airspace in recent years, the Financial Times reported, citing Taiwanese authorities.
Journalists emphasize that most of these cases have not been mentioned before. The article says that the indicated activity on the part of China increases Taiwan’s anxiety about the fact that the PRC may be preparing an attack on the island.
The last time a Chinese balloon was observed over Taiwanese territory was a few weeks ago. One of the interlocutors of the agency said that such cases are recorded about once a month.
Typically, balloons fly over Taiwan at an altitude of about 6000 meters. The publication notes that this is much lower than the height of the recent flight of a Chinese balloon in the sky over the United States. In Taiwan, they believe that the balloons can be controlled by the Chinese Air Force or the Chinese Missile Forces.
As reported IA REGNUMFebruary 12, the Global Times newspaper wrote that an unidentified flying object was found over the eastern Chinese province of Shandong.
