In the next five years, an increase in the number of earthquakes on Earth is expected due to increased seismic activity. Yury Vinogradov, Director of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about this in an interview with RIA News.
The strongest earthquakes of magnitude 9 occur on average once every five to seven years. Magnitude 8 – two to three times a year.
According to Vinogradov, the release of seismic energy is now reduced, but everything on Earth tends to the average, which means that an increase in the number of earthquakes is possible in the next five years. However, it is impossible to say exactly where the strongest earthquake will occur.
