Russian rescuers have completed a rescue operation in Syria, where there was a devastating earthquake. Now they continue to provide humanitarian assistance in the country, said the secretary-deputy head of the department Alexei Serko.
On the morning of February 6, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred in Turkey – tremors spread to the territory of Syria. There, according to the latest data, as a result of a natural disaster in the republic, about 8.5 thousand people died, RIA Novosti reports.
As Parlamentskaya Gazeta wrote, domestic rescuers went to Syria on the same day to help eliminate the consequences of the earthquake and rescue people from the rubble of collapsed buildings.
“The rescue operation to save the survivors is over. We are summing up the results and tomorrow we will report to the minister with a subsequent report to the President of Russia that the rescue operation has been completed, but humanitarian assistance continues, ”the representative of the TASS Ministry quotes.

As of February 9, representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations rescued 47 people in Syria, medical assistance was provided to 225 people at that time, representatives of the department distributed 38.5 tons of humanitarian aid.
As Yury Varakin, head of the situational center of Roshydromet, told Parliamentary Newspaper earlier, earthquakes like the one that occurred in Turkey cannot be predicted. According to him, methods that could allow scientists to predict such disasters in advance do not exist today.
