Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Stefanyshina: negotiations on EU accession will begin in 2023
Kyiv, February 13, 2023, 12:12 — REGNUM Negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union will begin in 2023. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanishina in an interview with the international business newspaper Financial Times.
According to her, Kyiv “very fast» is advancing on the path of reform.
Answering the question of whether the people of the country will not be disappointed if Ukraine does not join the European Union by 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister compared the entry process to the task of eating an elephant.
“The first part of the elephant is the beginning of accession negotiations. The Ukrainian people will understand at every stage what difficulties there are”, she explained, adding that at this stage there are no obstacles to negotiations.

The Deputy Prime Minister drew attention to the fact that a number of European countries do not want their “encouraged to make decisions”, and the other part compares the European integration of Ukraine with the situation of some countries of the Western Balkans, which have not been able to join the European Union for many years.
She also urged European leaders and others to be careful about the negative prospects for Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
