Kazakhstan may submit an application to join BRICS at upcoming organization summit, which will take place on October 22-24 in Kazan, said Kazakhstani political scientist, director of Center for Actual Research “Alternative” Andrey Chebotarev to Media.
“Readiness of Kazakhstan to contribute to the development of BRICS potential as a participating state was announced by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his speech at summit of this organization, which took place on August 24, 2023, in Johannesburg (South Africa).
Although there is no official information yet regarding Kazakhstan’s application to join BRICS. It is possible that situation will clarify during upcoming participation of the President of Kazakhstan in XVI BRICS summit, which will be held on October 22-24 in Kazan,” he said.
Political scientist also reminded that on July 3, Chinese President Xi Jinping during his state visit to Astana expressed support for Kazakhstan’s entry into BRICS, which could be a significant stimulus for Astana’s decision to join organization in the near future.
He noted that similar intentions from Ankara and Baku, which are partners of Astana in Organization of Turkic States, could also have an impact.
