With sustained winds reaching 140 km per hour, the storm prompted the Hong Kong Observatory to issue its highest alert, a number 10 hurricane warning, as the storm’s eye passed just south of the city.

Major airports across the region canceled all daytime flights, leaving travelers stranded. High-speed train services also halted operations.

Over 200 residents sought shelter and dozens of reports highlighted fallen trees across Hong Kong. Authorities evacuated 12,000 fishermen to safer locations to protect them from the storm’s impact.
