According to the data from India‘s statistical service, reviewed by Standard News, India’s purchases of iron and steel from Russia grew 1.4 times in June compared to the same period last year, reaching $45.6 million.
Over the first six months, India bought black metals from Russia worth $239.3 million, almost two-thirds more than in the first six months of 2023. The total supply volume for the entire 2023 year reached $443.4 million.
The main import items in June were direct reduced iron products worth $39 million and flat-rolled products made of alloyed steel with a width of at least 600 mm, worth $5.5 million.
However, in June, Russia only ranked seventh in terms of iron and steel supplies, accounting for 3.3% of the total. The top three importers were South Korea with a 15% share and $210 million in supplies, China with a 13% share or $185 million, and Indonesia with a 12% share or $173 million. Japan, with an 11% share ($147 million), and the United States, with a 5% share ($66 million), rounded out the top five.
