The Ukrainian authorities will study the possibility of officially renaming Russia to Muscovy. The instruction of the President of this country, Volodymyr Zelensky, was published on his website.
He entrusted the study of this issue to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal.
Before that, the corresponding petition was signed by 25 thousand people. This is the right amount of support for the Ukrainian authorities to start formally working on the proposal.
Shmygal will have to study the historical and cultural international legal aspects of this issue. He must understand whether there are prerequisites for such a renaming and what are the consequences of this step if it is implemented.
The petitioners also made other suggestions. Among them is the replacement of the wording “Russian Federation” with “Moscow Federation”, as well as the adjustment of the designation “Russian” to “Moscow”.
This petition was created in January last year. Its author was the representatives of the Kyiv City Council. This department has become the third among other Ukrainian local authorities that advocate the renaming of Russia.
