Zelensky counts on substantial support from Berlin

Zelensky expressed gratitude for the comprehensive support of Ukraine provided personally by the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Zelensky stressed the need to further strengthen allied relations between Kiev and Berlin.

The President of Ukraine emphasized the importance of providing the Ukrainian Armed Forces with Leopard tanks and IRIS-T air defense systems.

“We got through this winter also thanks to Germany. We will never forget this”Zelensky said.

He expressed hope that negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU would begin this year with the full support of Berlin.

During the meeting, the need for tougher sanctions against Russia in the next European Union sanctions package was discussed.

Recall that Germany announced the transfer of Leopard tanks, which are in service with the Bundeswehr, to Kyiv. In addition, Berlin gave its consent to the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine, which are in the armies of other European countries.
