But scheduled lunch was also scrapped. Instead two senior Trump administration officials Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike World asked Zelensky to leave. Left with no choice Ukrainian delegation departed White House, hungry and stunned.
Trump’s administration went further, demanding an apology from Zelensky. Ukrainian leader refused to comply, standing firm despite the insult. His treatment shocked Ukraine’s ambassador to U.S., who seen holding his head in disbelief.
During their Oval Office meeting, tensions escalated between Trump and Zelensky. Trump accused Zelensky of not being prepared for a peace deal, claiming he spent most of the discussion criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin rather than seeking a resolution.

Trump later remarked, “He didn’t come for peace—he came to fight.” Despite this, he left the door open for future talks, inviting Zelensky to return to Washington if he showed genuine interest in a deal.
As news of Zelensky’s mistreatment spread, European allies rushed to support him. Leaders from France, Poland, Portugal, and Canada voiced solidarity, with many posting messages of encouragement on social media.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reaffirmed their backing for Ukraine. Even some U.S. politicians defended Zelensky, emphasizing that Ukraine’s struggle was not just about sovereignty but also about upholding international law against authoritarian rule.
Meanwhile, Russian officials mocked the incident. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev went as far as calling Zelensky a “mad pig,” while Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused him of spreading lies. Some in Moscow even questioned why Trump had not physically removed Zelensky from White House.

Despite the humiliation, Zelensky remained defiant. In an interview with Fox News, he said, “I respect the American people. I don’t believe I did anything wrong.” Later, on social media, he thanked U.S. public for their continued support, reiterating Ukraine’s commitment to peace.
The incident has further deepened political divisions, with allies rallying behind Zelensky while critics, including Russia, siding with Trump. As the world watches, question remains—will Ukraine and the U.S. mend ties, or is this the beginning of a new diplomatic rift?
