Zakharova noted the continued interest in obtaining Russian citizenship abroad


High interest in Russian citizenship abroad remains despite the “wildest pressure” on compatriots. This was stated today, February 10, at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“If we compare the quantitative indicators of acquiring Russian citizenship and exiting it, then this ratio indicates the continued interest in Russian citizenship among our compatriots abroad, despite the wildest pressure that is being exerted,” the diplomat stressed.

She stated that in 2021-2022, the number of people admitted to Russian citizenship amounted to 51,430 people, and 8,361 who left.

Zakharova recalled that “at present, diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Russian Federation process admission to Russian citizenship in a simplified manner only to those applicants from among the adults who had USSR citizenship, lived and live in states that were part of the Soviet Union, did not receive citizenship these States and remain stateless as a result.”

“On this basis, 2,688 people were admitted to Russian citizenship abroad in the period from 2021 to 2022,” she pointed out.

“As for the admission of children to Russian citizenship, then, according to the consular department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, for the same period of 2021-2022, 48,742 children were accepted into Russian citizenship. Of these, the United States accounts for 1,745 people, the UK – 1,102, Germany – 5,603, France – 1,720, the Czech Republic – 434, Poland – 295.
