Xi Jinping welcomed the initiative of African countries to resolve the conflict in Ukraine

Chinese President Xi Jinping, in a telephone conversation with South African President Cyril Ramofosa, welcomed the initiative of African countries to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. He explained that Beijing’s position is to believe in the need for peace.

“It is good that Mr. President and the leaders of the respective African countries have formed a peace delegation to visit Russia and Ukraine,” said Mr. Xi (quoted from “Interfax”). He expressed the hope that “peace-loving and upholding justice countries” will be able to convince of the need for peace and promote negotiations.

The Chinese President believes that there is hope that the parties will create favorable conditions for a settlement. Mr. Ramofosa, for his part, supported China’s peace initiative. He expressed hope that the parties “will resume negotiations as soon as possible.”

During the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, several peace initiatives have already been proposed. In addition to China and African countries, the Vatican, Brazil, Indonesia and other countries performed with them. The African mission presupposes, first of all, the cessation of hostilities. The six countries that came up with the peace proposal believe that negotiations can begin without the withdrawal of Russian troops from territories that Kyiv considers its own.
