Chinese President Xi Jinping warned US President Joe Biden in a telephone conversation about the need to prevent a full-blown crisis. This was done before the announcement of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, writes The Wall Street Journal.
According to the newspaper, Xi Jinping expressed disappointment over the preparations for Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. The Chinese President warned Biden about the possible consequences of such a trip, without specifying what exactly could be discussed. China fears a domino effect, in which other world politicians, following the example of Pelosi, decide to visit Taiwan, the newspaper writes.
According to the newspaper, Xi Jinping said in a conversation with Biden that China does not intend to enter into conflict with the United States, but both sides must maintain peace and security. The Chinese President noted that now is not the time for a full-blown crisis.
