WP reported Democrats’ doubts about Biden’s ability to run for president | World news | News | 06/19/2022

Members of the Democratic Party of America doubt that US President Joe Biden is able to participate in the elections for the post of head of the country in 2024. This was reported by the newspaper on June 17 The Washington Post.

Fears of Biden’s associates are caused both by internal economic problems caused by anti-Russian sanctions and past mistakes of his administration during the coronavirus pandemic, and by the venerable age of the American leader. It is emphasized that if re-elected, Biden will be 86 years old at the end of his term. In addition, Democrats are worried about the lack of a clear strategy for the fall congressional elections, as well as Biden’s ability to physically withstand a tense re-election campaign, which, unlike during the pandemic, cannot be conducted remotely.

“I think people look at him [Байдена] with clenched jaws and a lot of tension in his body, hoping he doesn’t make a mistake at any moment. Obviously, this is hard to do as president, and it’s really hard to do as a president running for re-election, ”a source from the US Democratic Party election strategists told the publication.

Asked if there would be a nomination for Biden as a candidate in the 2024 election, the source replied, “I think it’s a coin toss.”

On June 14, the Biden administration confirmed the incumbent’s intention to run for a second term in 2024. At the same time, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre rejected journalists’ fears that Biden’s age or health could become a problem for his participation in the elections.

At the same time, political scientists assess Biden’s chances for re-election as low. In particular, this opinion was expressed by Alexei Fenenko, Associate Professor of the Faculty of World Politics at Moscow State University, as well as American Conservative columnist Patrick Buchanan, noting that health problems could interfere with him.

The popularity of the Biden administration has fallen amid problems with inflation and rising fuel prices in the United States. Thus, USA Today showed on June 18 that the vast majority (71%) of Americans believe that the United States is moving in the wrong direction.
