Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the participants of the III World Cadet Games, which started today in St. Petersburg, with a greeting. The sports program of the tournament, which will be held from 5 to 11 August, includes competitions in summer biathlon, athletics, volleyball, swimming, shooting, military pentathlon and orienteering.
“It is gratifying that the leadership of the International Military Sports Council has decided to hold these prestigious international competitions in our country.
We are justifiably proud of the wonderful traditions of army sports, solid experience in organizing competitions among military personnel and, of course, we will try to ensure that they are held at a decent, high level.
I would like to note that the current Games have united under their banners a large number of participants from Russia and a number of other states, provided them with excellent opportunities for training and performances at modern, purpose-built or modernized sports infrastructure facilities: stadiums, training grounds, swimming pools and gyms of military educational institutions of the Northern Capital “, the Russian president said in a statement posted on the Kremlin website.
According to MK, the opening ceremony of the III World Cadet Games took place on August 5 at the Cathedral Square of the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg. It was attended by the recently appointed Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation – Head of the Main Military-Political Directorate, Colonel General Viktor Goremykin. Previously, he headed the Main Directorate of Personnel of the military department.
More than 600 cadets from twenty countries take part in the games: Russia, Belarus, Mozambique, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Syria, UAE, Guinea, Cameroon, Palestine, Myanmar, Iran, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe , Mali, Tanzania, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan.
As part of the Russian Armed Forces team, cadets from 22 universities of the Russian Ministry of Defense, including the RVVDKU named after General of the Army V.F. Margelov, Military Academy of the Strategic Missile Forces, Military Medical Academy. 22 cadets are masters of sports of Russia, 41 are candidates for master of sports, 51 have the first sports category.
The program of the games includes competitions in international military pentathlon, athletics, orienteering, shooting, volleyball, swimming and summer biathlon (cross-country disciplines). In five days, 94 sets of awards will be drawn.
The competitions will be held at CSKA facilities located in St. Petersburg. The training bases of the Military Institute of Physical Culture (VIFK) in Toksovo and the National State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Health named after A.I. P.F. Lesgaft “Kavgolovo”, a complex shooting gallery of the Western Military District in Sertolovo, the park of culture and recreation “Sosnovka”, the park of the Polytechnic University, the stadium “Primorets”, the swimming pool of the VIFK.
