WASHINGTON, Dec 7 – The Americans should not forget the defeat of Pearl Harbor, as well as other defeats and victories, says the representative of the American Legion organization of US veterans, John Rother.
The American Legion believes it is important that Americans never forget the sacrifices that have been made and the heroism shown at Pearl Harbor and in every battle in which Americans have defended their country, “Rother said.
Japanese Army troops carried out an air attack on the US Navy base in Hawaii Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. More than 2,000 American soldiers became victims of the attack, more than a thousand were injured, more than 20 warships and over 300 aircraft were destroyed or seriously damaged. The battle, considered the most tragic event in the United States since the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, led to the actual beginning of US involvement in World War II. Celebrations will be held at Pearl Harbor and elsewhere in the United States to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the events.
