The new representative of Turkey to the UN, Sedat Onal, spoke at an emergency meeting of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine. This was reported today, February 23, by Turkish News.
The Turkish diplomat noted:
“It is necessary to formulate a clear vision for the cessation of hostilities through diplomacy as early as possible. Turkey opposes military action and rejects the annexation of Ukrainian territories under Russian control. Turkey will continue to make efforts to achieve this goal.”
EADaily recalls that this week Ukraine will turn to Turkey and the UN with a request to start negotiations on the extension of the grain corridor deal, seeking to extend it for at least a year.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu also stated that Ankara will not allow Russia to circumvent sanctions, although it does not join the unilateral economic measures against Moscow.
