“War and Peace” by Dmitry Chernyakov will be staged for the first time on the stage of the Bavarian Opera

Premiere of the opera “War and Peace” directed by Dmitry Chernyakov will take place on Sunday on the Munich stage. The performance can be viewed online on the theatre’s website. The premiere is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the death of the composer Sergei Prokofiev, the author of the opera, reports the magazine “Theater”.

Dmitry Chernyakov is not the first to stage performances based on Sergei Prokofiev’s opera. Previously with conductor Daniel Barenboim he chose the Berlin State Opera as the venue for The Gambler and Learning in a Monastery.

Actors will play the main roles in the production of “War and Peace” Andrey Zhilihovsky And Olga Kulchinskaya. Acts as musical director Vladimir Yurovsky, artistic director of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and musical director of the Bavarian Opera.

“Events are taking place right now, in 2023, but we, of course, are exaggerating a little, we are doing, as they like to call it, such a dystopia – we are telling a story that did not happen, but which can happen,” says Chernyakov about the performance.

Earlier it was reported that the theater of the festival in Germany responded to the refusal of Ukrainian musicians to perform with Netrebko.
