War against the planet endangers the survival of humanity

Mankind’s war against its own planet endangers its survival, UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned during the presentation of the Carlos V European Prize in Spain.

“The war we are waging against our planet threatens the very survival of mankind… This climate chaos, due to a series of fires, floods, droughts, as here in Spain, and other extreme meteorological events, affects all continents,” the UN Secretary General said.

Guterres noted that every year, due to natural disasters, people seek refuge in other countries. According to him, “acting for the good of our planet, we also act for the sake of peace.” He called reducing emissions, protecting nature and helping affected communities “actions in the name of justice.
