Russian special operation in Ukraine
A resident of Bakhmut (Artemovsk) died a day before the liberation of the city, when he tried to leave it. He came under fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said a fighter of the Wagner group, which liberated the city.
“One of the civilians, when our guys knocked out the enemy, decided to leave the basement and go over to our side to be evacuated. Literally 50 meters did not reach us – the artillery worked out, he was hit by shrapnel, he died on the spot, ”the RIA Novosti fighter said.
On Saturday, May 20, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the creator of the Wagner PMC, announced the capture of Bakhmut, the battles for which had been going on since August 2022. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed this information. The city was taken as a result of the offensive actions of the Wagner assault detachments with the support of artillery and aviation of the Southern Group of Forces, the ministry noted. The Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that Ukrainian troops still remain in the city.
