Relations between Russia and Belarus are now being tested for strength, the countries are trying to divide, cross out the historical memory of the two peoples. Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said this during a meeting on November 24 with Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalia Kochanova.

“If we talk about today, then this is the moment for all of us, for the Union State, for our relations. They are tested for strength, they are trying to do everything in order to divide, cross out our memory that we carry, respecting our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. They are trying to strike at our culture, traditions, ”the State Duma website quotes the speaker as saying.

Volodin told Natalya Kochanova about the laws adopted by the State Duma to protect traditional values. Blows, according to him, are inflicted on the institutions of the family, church, and faith.

“In this regard, we must protect history, culture, religion and language,” the politician is sure.

During the meeting, Viacheslav Volodin and Natalya Kochanova discussed issues of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation in the interests of further strengthening relations between Russia and Belarus, and jointly confronting new challenges. The Chairman of the State Duma called for more active use of the opportunities provided by inter-parliamentary cooperation in order to develop relations between the two countries.

“Our presidents set the tone, the dynamics of relations. As for parliaments, deputies, we still need to do a lot in this area in order to reach such a level. And, of course, to make a contribution on our part to the development of relations between our countries,” said Viacheslav Volodin.

For her part, Natalya Kochanova emphasized the importance of cooperation between Russia and Belarus in the face of the challenges that both states faced.

“We see how important cooperation between our countries is today, because the pressure that is being exerted on our peoples, on our countries is unprecedented. This has never happened before in history. And of course, we must be united,” she explained.

On the same day, Natalia Kochanova met with Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko. The speakers signed an agreement on cooperation between the upper houses of the parliaments of Russia and Belarus – the Federation Council and the Council of the Republic. The document came into force from the date of signing, which took place in the building of the Chamber of Regions in Moscow on November 24. The document concluded for an indefinite period stipulates that the key condition for an effective joint response to new challenges is the deepening of integration within the Union State of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
