In Moscow, the traditional Victory Parade began on Red Square. This year marks the 78th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Today’s ceremony was attended by the leaders of seven countries: the presidents of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the prime minister of Armenia.
The parade is commanded by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, General of the Army Oleg Salyukov, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry Sergei Shoigu is hosting the parade. He said that more than 10 thousand people and over 120 pieces of weapons and military equipment would be involved in the parade. In addition, the parade is also attended by units involved in the military operation in Ukraine.
Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that after the parade, it is planned to jointly lay wreaths at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, after which the heads of state will have an informal breakfast with the Russian president. The Kremlin also promised to take “necessary measures” to ensure security at the parade.
In 2022, the parade on Red Square lasted an hour. Leaders of other countries were not invited to it.
