Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security Anatoly Vyborny will introduce a bill to the State Duma that will simplify the procedure for obtaining weapons for combat veterans. He talked about this “Izvestia”. The preliminary initiative has already been approved by the Russian Guard.
It is assumed that veterans will be able to buy repeating and rifled weapons without undergoing training and experience. At the moment, access to more serious weapons can only be obtained with proper storage of smooth-bore weapons. Exceptions apply to active military personnel, security forces and representatives of the judiciary, but they do not apply to combat veterans.
“They don’t need to instill a culture of gun ownership from the beginning. They know its specifics and have practical skills in safe use. In order to increase trust in them from the state and society, it is proposed to make these changes,” the deputy noted. In addition, the amendments would remove unnecessary burden from the regulator, the Russian National Guard. At the same time, veterans, like other candidates for purchasing weapons, will have to undergo a medical examination.
According to Rosstat, there were 1.5 million combat veterans in Russia in 2021. This summer, the First Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Russia Olga Batalina spokethat more than 133 thousand participants in combat operations in Ukraine have already received combat veteran status.
