As part of the traditional tour along the route of the XXII Moscow Easter Festival, the Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater under the baton of People’s Artist of Russia Valery Gergiev visited the capital of Mordovia. For creative and civic merits in Saransk, the maestro was awarded the Order of Glory of Mordovia, III degree.

The illustrious ensemble again delighted connoisseurs of musical art with an exquisite repertoire. The concert program included works of domestic and world classics, which are rarely performed on the local stage. “News of Mordovia”. The audience, which filled the hall of the Yaushev Theater to capacity, was able to hear a virtuoso performance of dances from the second act of Glinka’s opera A Life for the Tsar, Stravinsky’s charming fairy-tale ballet Petrushka, and the choreographic symphony Daphnis and Chloe by the great French composer Ravel.

On behalf of all admirers of Valery Gergiev and the members of his orchestra, Artem Zdunov, head of the Republic of Mordovia, warmly greeted them. The head of the region recalled that the maestro celebrated his 70th birthday right during the tour. In honor of this date, as well as for outstanding creative merits and a firm civic position, Artem Zdunov presented the great conductor of our time with a state award – the Order of Glory of Mordovia, III degree.
