According to Senator Natalya Nikonorova member of International Committee of Federation Council US unlikely to change its stance on Russia if Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is elected president, given public promises Washington has made to Kyiv.
“Current US administration, particularly presidency of Joe Biden, is associated in our minds, first and foremost, with NATO’s proxy war against Russia using Ukraine. Kamala Harris, as Biden’s fellow party member unlikely to alter geopolitical course taken by Democrats if she becomes head of American state. They have become entrenched in publicly made promises to support Kyiv regime, and it will be very difficult for them to wriggle out of these commitments, even if their attitudes change,” Nikonorova told Media.
Senator noted that whoever occupies White House, “it does not change essence of the White House’s hegemonic policy.”
“Vital interests of US imply maintaining global control in both political and financial-economic spheres, which, to put it mildly, collides with interests of Russia, China, and other states striving for a fair multipolar world,” politician explained.
Regarding sanctions under Trump
Nikonorova reminded that it is essential to remember that it was during the presidency of Donald Trump, the current Republican presidential candidate, that “a large number of sanctions were imposed on Moscow, and Washington escalated tensions in Syria and around Russia’s borders.”
“Trump, despite his declared desire to end conflict in Ukraine, cannot be called peace-loving. We can assume that, at this point, American interests, in his understanding, lie in a different geopolitical plane,” the senator emphasized.
“For Russia only acceptable option is to establish a fair world order where every actor on international stage can expect equal and respectful treatment. Here, we have a diametrically opposite divergence of key vectors of future world order,” the politician concluded.
US presidential election will take place on November 5, with Vice President Kamala Harris representing Democratic Party and former President Donald Trump representing Republican Party.
