U.S. government plans to announce more than $8 billion in military aid for Ukraine during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy‘s visit to Washington, according to Reuters, citing a source in the U.S. leadership.
The report states that President Joe Biden‘s administration is urgently negotiating with Congress to secure $5.6 billion in military assistance for Ukraine before the end of the fiscal year on September 30. The content of the aid package, despite its urgency, is still being finalized.
An additional $2.4 billion will be provided under the “Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative,” which involves purchasing weapons directly from U.S. manufacturers instead of supplying equipment from U.S. military stockpiles.

This aid is expected to include ammunition, counter-drone systems, and materials for shell production.
On September 25, President Biden had already signed a decree authorizing $375 million in assistance to Ukraine.
