Mendes said on Twitter that if US President “refuses to hold ’s Russian counterpart accountable for financing terrorism against US troops in Afghanistan,” then Congress should step up its activities again.

“My proposal for sanctions against the Russian Federation came out in December and is waiting for a vote,” he recalled.
