US military accuses Chinese fighter jet of ‘aggressive flight’ over South China Sea

The US Indo-Pacific Command reported that a Chinese Air Force J-16 fighter jet performed an “aggressive flight” in front of a US RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft.

On May 26, 2023, a PRC Air Force J-16 fighter pilot made an overly aggressive maneuver while intercepting an American RC-135 aircraft, which was forced to fly through the wake, ”the US military said in a statement.

According to the military department, the American plane flew over the South China Sea in accordance with international law. As a result of the close maneuvering of the Chinese fighter jet, a wake occurred, which was formed during the flight of two aircraft.

The US military expects all countries in the Indo-Pacific region to be able to use airspace in accordance with international norms.
